Thomas Lawrence - Peintures
Sir Thomas Lawrence (Bristol, 13 avril 1769 – Londres, 7 janvier 1830) – peintre anglais important connu surtout pour ses portraits.
Sir Thomas Lawrence est considéré comme un enfant prodige et débute sa formation dès l´âge de 10 ans auprès de William Hoare à Bath avant d´entrer à l´Académie Royale des Arts de Londres. Il peint déjà des portraits de membres de la noblesse qu´il expose à partir de 1788. En 1792 il devient peintre officiel à la Cour. De 1820 jusqu´à sa mort il est président de l´Académie royale des arts. Il réalise de nombreux portraits de la famille royale et de la noblesse anglaise, mais également de nobles d´autres pays européens. En 1818 le roi Georges IV lui commande un tableau des membres du Congrès d´Aix-La-Chapelle. Ses portraits bénéficient d´une large diffusion grâce la reproduction sous forme de gravures et d´eaux-fortes.
