Louis Léopold Boilly - Peintures
Louis Léopold Boilly (La Bassée, 5 juillet 1761 – Paris, 4 janvier 1845) – peintre et graveur français, connu surtout pour ses tableaux de genre.
Louis Léopold Boilly est fils de sculpteur. Il prend ses premiers cours de dessin à Arras et à Douai et il étudie la peinture en trompe-l´œil. En 1785 il s´installe à Paris et y travaille comme peintre portraitiste et peintre de genre. En 1791, il expose pour la première fois dans le cadre du Salon et se fait rapidement un nom grâce à ses portraits et ses tableaux illusionnistes. Il reçoit la médaille d´or en 1804. Ses tableaux de genre montrent avec force détails la vie quotidienne dans le Paris de l´époque de la Révolution jusqu´à la Restauration. Il s´intéresse aussi bien aux scènes de rue (« Arrivée d´une diligence dans la cour des messageries », 1803) qu´aux représentations de tavernes ou d´intérieurs bourgeois. Fortement influencé à ses débuts par Greuze et Fragonard, il développe peu à peu une luminosité toute personnelle dont l´éclat fait penser à la porcelaine, et une grande précision dans le détail, observée chez les maîtres hollandais du XVIIIème siècle.
