Jozsef Rippl Ronai - Paintings
József Rippl-Rónai
was born in Austria-Hungary. He was a member in various French post-Impressionist groups of artists. He influenced the modern art in his home country with his complex painting style.
Born: 24 May 1861 in Kaposvár
Died: 25 November 1927 in Kaposvár
Before the painter József Rippl-Rónai discovers his passion for art and receives education at the Munich academy, he has worked as an educator. He is successful enough to receive a scholarship, József Rippl-Rónai goes to Paris after three years' training as a twenty-six-year-old. He soon is very closely connected to the artists of the group of Pont-Aven as well as the Nabis. Especially Aristide Maillol and Edouard Vuillard have a lasting impact on his art. Around the turn of the century, Rippl-Rónai is still unable to be successful in his home country and undertakes two journeys, one to his friend Maillol and then to Russia. As of 1902, he lives in his hometown and slowly starts to be artistically successful. József Rippl-Rónai is familiar with many styles of modern art: he is a painter who, like the Nabis, can be categorized in the Art Nouveau due to his strongly decorative works. He prefers the simultaneous contrast and, in his late work, he even paints pointillist paintings. From 1906 onwards, József Rippl-Rónai's works can be seen at exhibitions in Budapest.
