François Boucher - Paintings
François Boucher
was a French painter who was talented as well in oil paintings and frescoes in the design of porcelain and tapestry. He is considered the most important French history painter of Rococo.
Born: 29 September 1703 in Paris, Kingdom of France
Died: 30 May 1770 in Paris, Kingdom of France
From 1731, with him joining the Academy, the multi-talented painter François Boucher promotes from history painter to director of the Royal Tapestry Manufactory. While his early work has consisted of paintings which followed Antoine Watteau’s style, from 1735 onwards, he changed from rural to mythological, partly idyllic-erotic themes. Mythologies like the Triumph of Venus and stories of other gods, whose love affairs François Boucher manages to depict in very sensuous, innocent manner, are rated among his principal works.
