Edgar Degas (born Hilaire-Germain-Edgar De Gas) was an important French painter of Impressionism.

Edgar Degas' early work consists of classically influenced history paintings with mythological content. It was not until 1865, when he started painting more scenes of everyday life that convince by the psychological penetration in the expression of their figures. Furthermore, in 1867, he created the first of his famous dancers' pictures. Through contact with Claude Monet, he participated in several Impressionist exhibitions. Sticking to his own style, he continued to paint scenes of everyday life, depicting lonely, introverted persons. |
