Carl Larsson was a popular Swedish artist of the 19th century who, in addition to large murals, also created illustrations, etchings and watercolors.
Born on May 28, 1853 in Stockholm.
Died on January 22, 1919 in Sundborn, Falun.
From 1877, Carl Larsson practiced as a plein-air painter in France for 8 years. He had an absolutely unique style that cannot really be associated to any era. This is perhaps the reason for him being so popular at that time. In particular, he became famous for his watercolors depicting domestic idyll, which are often published in picture books and represent an interesting mix of Swedish folk art, Japanese woodprints and Art Nouveau. In addition to some large murals, the most outstanding work of Carl Larsson is the picture called "The House in the Sun." |
