Thomas Couture, Lehrer von Edouard Manet, Chavannes und Anselm Feuerbach, ist ein französischer Maler von Historienbildern und Portraits des Klassizismus im 19. Jahrhundert.
geboren am 21. Dezember 1815 in Senlis
gestorben am 29. März 1879 in Paris
Thomas Couture, der eine künstlerische Ausbildung bei Antoine Jean Gros und Paul Delaroche absolviert, malt hauptsächlich Historienbilder und Portraits, die durch detaillierte Ausschmückung der Figuren überzeugen. Während eines Italienaufenthaltes macht er sich mit der Kunst der Venezianer sowie den Werken der Antike und Renaissance vertraut. Er stellt in Salons aus und macht sich mit dem Werk "Die Römer der Verfallszeit" einen großen Namen.		 Thomas Couture
