Luca Giordano, (Spitzname: „Proteo della pittura“) ist ein bedeutender italienischer Maler und Freskendekorateur des Barock.
geboren am 18. Oktober 1634 in Neapel
gestorben am 03. Januar 1705 in Neapel
Luca Giordano, der vor allen Dingen für seinen von Pietro da Cortona inspirierten Spätstil bekannt wird, malt sowohl einfallsreiche Öl- und Wandgemälde wie auch Freskendekorationen, die durch ihre rhythmische Figurenbewegtheit und eine ausdrucksstarke Farbgebung gekennzeichnet sind. Während eines Aufenthalts in Spanien auf Wunsch von Karl II entsteht 1697-1700 das Deckenfresko der Sakristei der Kathedrale von Toledo. Luca Giordano wird auf Grund seiner elegant, leichten Malerei zum Vorbild der venezianischen Künstler des späten 18. Jahrhunderts gezählt.		 Luca Giordano
