Johann Heinrich Füseli
, (also known as Henry Fuseli) was a Swiss history painter and draftsman and is considered an important artist of Symbolism.
Born on February 06, 1741 in Zurich.
Died on April 16, 1825 in Putney Hill, London.
Classically influenced by Anton Raphael Mengs and J.J. Winckelmann, Henry Fuseli, a draftsman and writer, devoted himself to painting in 1768. He was inspired by his contact with Joshua Reynolds. On a trip to Italy, he learned to know the works of Michelangelo and assumed some details in his allegorical paintings, especially the collapsed characters found in his works. In addition to individual history paintings, Johann Heinrich Füseli was known for his fantastic-symbolic illustrations of the works of Shakespeare and Homer, especially in England.
