Lovis Corinth, dessen Werk Einflüsse vieler Stilrichtungen vereint, ist der bedeutendste deutsche Maler und Grafiker des 19. Jahrhunderts.

gestorben am 17. Juli 1925 in Zandvoort
In seinem Frühwerk bleibt Lovis Corinth, der eine Ausbildung an der Königsberger Kunstakademie absolviert, konventionellen Stillleben und Genredarstellungen verhaftet. Auf der Münchener Kunstakademie und durch die Bekanntschaft mit Wilhelm Leibl lernt Lovis Corinth den Realismus kennen. Er wendet sich allerdings, nachdem er mit Hilfe seiner zu der Zeit expressionistisch angehauchten Gemälde gegen die Malerei der Akademien Protest eingelegt hat, ab 1892 der Freilichtmalerei zu und prägt mit Liebermann und Slevogt den deutschen Impressionismus.
